Event Photography that captures the mood

Event Photography requires a unique skillset because you are often working with challenging lighting conditions, a fast paced environment and many different people.

LIGHTING CONSIDERATIONS

It’s important to consider your expectations from the photos at your event.  Where will you use them and what you need them for.  Events are often held in low light and this creates some challenges which may affect the quality of the images.  Digitally this is less noticeable than for print which is why it’s important to know what you want your images for.  Once we know exactly what you expect from the images then we can decide whether you want to use external lights or if I liase with your lighting team if you have one.  External lighting takes a lot more planning and depending on the evening and what you have planned may be distracting but I’m happy to discuss all the details and work out what will work best for your event.

MY APPROACH TO EVENTS

I keep it simple with event photography, aiming for a documentary approach together with a few key portraits as the event progresses.

I will gather information beforehand including the itinerary and what is important to you to be captured, details of the location and lighting that will be used so that I know what equipment I will need for the evening.  Once we have the itinerary and have discussed your requirements then I can ascertain whether a second shooter would be required on the evening.  This is especially great when your event is quite large and you’re looking for comprehensive cover of the event.

My availability for event photography is very limited as I only take on a few of these every year depending on my schedule.  The end of the year tends to be quite busy for events so if you’re planning something and looking to have it photographed professionally I would suggest getting in touch as soon as possible to confirm the date.
